L.A. Fashion Week Spring '09: Secta
Timeless, chic and subtly sexy—that was the look of Secta. The New York–based collection debuted on the runway at BoxEight on Oct. 16. Co-designer Renee Patron said the collection was inspired by art and geometric shapes and the concept of modernity. Patron grew up in Los Angeles’ Echo Park neighborhood and said she welcomed the opportunity to showcase the brand on the runway. The collection has an international look, which the Filipino designer credits to having lived in various parts of the world and to designing the line with Keiko Yamamoto, who is Japanese. The look was both uptown and downtown with a subtle edge. It’s the kind of collection that you can look to for stylish sophistication with an artistic flair. There were overalls that had edgy V-shaped straps, cocoon dresses and chic leather jackets paired with liquid leggings. Lines were clean and modern on a brown jumpsuit, and subtle draping added a soft edge to dresses. Leather handbags and belts had a minimalist aesthetic and chain details that added a city chic look to the collection.—N. Jayne Seward
