Kitson to Open in Santa Monica
The Kitson empire will raise its flag in Santa Monica, Calif. The pop-culture boutique chain became prominent by mixing fashion and celebrity culture after opening its first store in 2000. Kitson currently maintains four stores on high-profile Los Angeles shopping street Robertson Boulevard. Kitson owner Fraser Ross said he recently signed a leasing agreement with developer Macerich to open a new Kitson at the remodeled Santa Monica Place shopping center.
The shopping center, located adjacent to Santa Monica’s prominent Third Street Promenade retail district, will open in Fall 2009. The two-level, 8,000-square-foot Kitson store will offer men’s clothing and accessories upstairs and women’s clothing and accessories downstairs. Kitson fans can count on finding similar merchandise at the Santa Monica store as at the original Robertson store, Ross said. Macerich executives did not answer requests for comment.
For Kitson fans, November will be a big month. Ross will open a West Hollywood Kitson boutique on the 8500 block of Melrose Avenue, a few blocks away from the Pacific Design Center. The company also will open an emporium at the Glendale, Calif.–based Americana at Brand shopping center in mid-November. —Andrew Asch
