L.A. Fashion Week Spring '09: Beach Bunny
With its Spring 2009 swim collection, Beach Bunny Swimwear brought a dose of sex appeal to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Calif.—both on the runway and in the front row. Four real-life Playboy bunnies, including Hugh Hefner’s rumored new twin girlfriends, populated the front row at the Oct. 13 show.
Not for shrinking violets, Beach Bunny’s collection ranged from camp to classic. With its signature Brazilian-cut bottoms, the brand’s skimpy suits touched on a variety of themes, including nautical, lingerie-inspired, French maid and pinup inspirations. Gold and silver hardware, layers of lace, draped chains, daring strategically placed cutouts, and oodles of bows made the collection better suited for lounging by a pool than taking a dip. Designer Angela Chittenden, herself a former swimsuit model, also chose unlikely fabrications for Beach Bunny Swimwear. Satin, lace, corset-style boning and other construction details more readily identified with lingerie appeared throughout the swimwear collection. —Erin Barajas
