Eco-Friendly Line Bgreen Launches Yoga Collection
Bgreen’s simple, classic organic-cotton activewear isn’t breaking any new ground i n fashion but instead aims to comprise those favorite everyday pieces that the wearer will keep in the closet for years to come.
NatureUSA, a full-package manufacturer based in Rancho Dominguez, Calif., launched Bgreen men’s and women’s activewear in 2003. NatureUSA is one of the few apparel companies certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard. Under these standards, all steps, “from growing the crop all the way to packaging the garment,” in NatureUSA’s private-label and Bgreen production adhere to eco-friendly and socially responsible guidelines, said Bgreen founder Mike Farid.
“Coming from a manufacturing background, when shopping, I always saw there are so many crappy garments out there at high prices,” Farid said. “The idea was simply to offer great-fitting, great-looking garments—and it’s manufactured in an environmentally friendly way.”
Bgreen includes activewear lines and underwear lines for men and women and a new organic-cotton/spandex yoga collection for Fall ’08. The designs for all the collections are described as “classic as far as silhouette.” Athletic details provide design interest, such as a crisscross back on an organic-cotton/ spandex women’s tank and a striped waistband on yoga pants. For men, a basic pullover fleece hoodie has a slim, contemporary fit, and tees feature environmental and inspirational prints. The underwear line offers basic boyshort, brief and boxer-brief shapes with flatlock stitching finishing that has a seamless appearance.
“A lot of activewear out there is mostly nylon/spandex or a version of polyester/spandex,” said Farid, adding that cotton is “very comfortable and very pleasant when you wear it.”
Wholesale prices range from $20 to $45 for men’s and women’s activewear and from $6 to $30 for underwear. The line has been sold to retailers that specialize in eco-friendly and green products, such as the Web site www.faeriesdance.com.
