REI's Solar Retrofit
Seattle-based outdoor gear and clothing co-op Recreational Equipment Inc. announced plans to retrofit more than 10 percent of its stores with solar electric technology this year. In all, 11 stores will receive the solar electric systems, including seven in California: in Arcadia, Folsom, Sacramento, San Carlos, San Diego, San Francisco and Santa Rosa. Stores in Clackamas, Hillsboro and Tualatin, Ore., and the co-op’s prototype store in Round Rock, Texas, will also receive the solar installations. REI is working with Davis, Calif.–based solar engineering firm Blue Oak Energy on the project.
