Weinbaum Leaves QST, Joins Creative Sourcing
Immediately after finalizing a deal for its West Coast business, Chicago-based QST Industries has parted ways with Los Angeles–based Vice President and board member Kenneth Weinbaum.
Originally, Weinbaum was scheduled to remain with QST following the merger of its West Coast operations with Los Angeles–based Security Textile (see related story), which has changed its name to STC-QST.
“We had put him in a consulting positioning in the new format,” said QST President Tom Dansch. “He has decided to work with other people in sourcing product in Asia.”
Weinbaum confirmed that he has already secured a new position. He is joining Los Angeles–based Creative Sourcing, a company that sources apparel production in China and Vietnam. Weinbaum will be a partner in the company, which is owned by Glen and Marty Reder.
The Reders are third-generation apparel manufacturers with a long history of producing apparel domestically and overseas through their father’s company, Irving B. Reder and Co. in Chatsworth, Calif., Weinbaum said.
“They grew up in the business. They know what’s going on in China,” Weinbaum said. “I’ve tied in with the best.”
Weinbaum said the decision to join Creative Sourcing was made following his split with QST.
Brian Weitman, chief executive officer of STC-QST, said Weinbaum will continue to work with the company as a consultant and also as a customer. Weitman is also the owner of Security Sourcing International, a full-package provider and separate business from STC-QST. Security Sourcing has worked with Creative Sourcing in the past and will continue to do so, Weitman said. “I have the utmost respect and admiration for Kenny,” he said. “We’ve been friends and friendly competitors. He’ll always have a home and a family with our new company.” —Alison A. Nieder
