L.A. Fashion Week Fall '08: Zachariah Bryant
Hipster lines go hand in hand with Los Angeles fashion, and Zachariah Bryant’s is one of the more promising to launch recently. Bryant showcased his Fall collection at Em & Co. on March 12 during Los Angeles Fashion Week. The event, hosted by singer/songwriter Samantha Mollen, included a cocktail party and two fashion shows at the artsy boutique on Los Angeles’ West Third Street.
Bryant’s Fall collection had a casual hipster aesthetic with a luxury twist. “I tried to incorporate my life in New York [and] my life in Los Angeles with some time that I spent in Australia,” Bryant said. The result is a downtown casual “girl on the go” kind of collection that can be worn throughout the day at work and to dinner and clubs in the evening.
Bryant’s aesthetic is fresh, bohemian and thoroughly modern. The look was eclectic and innovative, pairing double knits with ikat prints and using thermal fabrics to line silk-dupioni dresses. A chic plaid dress came in cobalt and black, an ’80s-style cropped jacket was paired with an ikat-print skirt, and a chartreuse hippie vest was layered over a chic black frock. Other key looks included an orange, black and white plaid shirtdress, an ikat-print hooded jacket and a gray knit turtleneck worn with a flirty black silk-chiffon layered skirt. —N. Jayne Seward
