Yves Saint Laurent Remembered
Funeral services were held June 5 for Algerian-born fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent. The well-regarded fashion icon died at his Paris home June 1 of brain cancer. He was 71. Saint Laurent had been diagnosed with brain cancer in April 2007, and his health quickly declined. Laurent became famous in his early 20s when he presented his first collection for the Christian Dior line in Paris in 1958. The tall, thin designer has been credited for putting modern women into elegant pantsuits and creating a world of fashion around him. His collections included styles such as the trapeze dress, the Navy pea coat and a dress that looked like a Piet Mondrian painting. His fashion empire included a couture and a ready-to-wear division.
