Sales Slump
Department-store clothing sales in Japan took a dive this spring. For the months of May and June, apparel sales fell 14 percent. Aeon department-store officials said the company has seen a sharp drop-off in branded apparel sales. As a result, the large department-store chain plans to close 40 locations by the end of its next business year.
