Letter to the Editor: 'The Greening of Vegas,' a Clarification
In the July 11 edition of California Apparel News, Zachary Delbex-Smith and the foundingof his company, Greener Vegas, were featured in an article focusing on the recycling aspect of the convention industry in Las Vegas.
Greener Vegas is extremely grateful to California Apparel News and to the author of the article, Christian Chensvold, for the exposure this article has given us. Zachary felt, however, that some points of clarification were needed.
Although they have been so in the past, it was NEVER Zachary’s or Greener Vegas’ intent to portray the convention industry in a negative (or uncaring) manner; rather, it was, in fact, our intent to emphasize the great strides that are being made and how Greener Vegas has tried to facilitate these efforts.
As Zachary mentioned in the article, the biggest obstacle to environmental responsibility is simply a lack of time, knowledge and resources. Greener Vegas seeks to provide convention associations, contractors and venues simple answers and cost-effective green options in this very fast-paced industry. We do the legwork so that show managers don’t have to.
Greener Vegas and the Web site www.greenervegas.org seek to focus on the positive efforts being made by business, government and individuals. Our “Convention Partners” and the contractors who work with them are a tribute to these efforts and (as industry leaders) an inspiration to the planning of future events here in Las Vegas.

Editor’s Note: The photo of Zachary Delbex-Smith that accompanied the “Greening of Vegas”story in the July 11 issue showed the Greener Vegas founder standing beside a large pile of trash. A Greener Vegas spokesperson requested we clarify that the photo was taken at a recycling plant, not at a convention center.
