Samantha Chang Reemerges With Two New Collections
Lingerie designer Samantha Chang’s new mantra for Spring 2009 is “simple and streamlined.”
After taking a break for Fall 2008, Chang relaunched her line with two separate collections: Dream by Samantha Chang and Glimpse.
Since New York–based Chang started her eponymous line in 1999, her romantic lingerie, loungewear and daywear designs in a variety of mesh, silks and cotton fabrics have been sold to stores such as Fred Segal in Santa Monica, Calif.; Lulu’s in Manhattan Beach, Calif.; and Bergdorf Goodman in New York.
Chang also produces the Boutique Lingerie trade show, held three times a year in Los Angeles and twice a year in New York and Las Vegas in partnership with CurvExpo. Chang launched the London edition of the show last year.
Her Dream by Samantha Chang line focuses solely on cotton/Modal knit fabrications in soft colors and feminine prints. Lounge pants, tunic dresses and tops in contemporary cuts are a sophisticated interpretation of sleepwear and loungewear. “It’s very basic with a twist,” Chang said. “It should attract people who want above-and-beyond lingerie.”
Her Glimpse lingerie line is composed of lacy bras, panties and underpinning camisoles.
In conjunction with streamlining the look of her loungewear lines, the designer reorganized her production flow. Chang previously produced her lingerie and sleepwear lines in New York, using fabric from Europe.
Now her two new lines will be produced in Europe with European fabrics. She aims to have the contemporary price points of her new line be about the same or slightly lower than in past seasons. Retail price points for Spring 2008 were $45 to $225.
