Macy's Expands San Francisco Web Operations

Macy’s e-commerce division is expanding its San Francisco headquarters.

The company has signed a 10-year lease for close to 60,000 square feet in the historic Monadnock Building, located at 685 Market St.

The move will consolidate operations for the Macy’s Web site (www.macys.com) in the Bay Area as the retailer will shift employees from its Fourth Street e-commerce offices and its Macy’s West offices on Farrell Street to the new location. Monadnock is closer to the Macy’s Union Square flagship and features a more aesthetically pleasing environment. The building is a historical- registered building designed by noted architect Frederick H. Meyer. The building is known for its giant trompe l’oeil murals located in its lobby. It is located next to the Hearst Building and Palace Hotel.

Macy’s currently occupies the sixth floor of the building and will take the upper three floors of the 10-story building this April, when renovation work is expected to be completed, said brokers for Colliers International, which represented the building’s owner, Prudential. Macy’s will take over space formerly occupied by law firm Sonnenschein, Nath & Rosenthal. —Robert McAllister
