L.A. Royalty
BASIC INSTINCT: In contrast to the allover prints and loud graphics that adorn men’s T-shirts, L.A. Royalty’s tees and basic jeans have a pared-down aesthetic “with a slight edge.”
Designed by siblings Anastasia, Anthony and Rebecca Marciano (children of Armand Marciano, one of the co-founders of Guess? Inc.), L.A. Royalty finds humor in the hype of Tinseltown with graphics that read “Don’t Believe Hollywood.”
The line has been shipping to stores since August 2006 and is now carried by retailers including Fred Segal and Apartment 3 in Los Angeles. “I like the fact that it’s poking a tiny bit of fun at L.A.” says Kristin Knauff, owner of Apartment 3, who stocks L.A. Royalty’s double-sided chandelier print T-shirt. “We can take ourselves too seriously here sometimes.” —Rhea Cortado
KEY LOOKS: Cotton fleece sweatshirts are dressed up just a touch with silk lining in the hood and limited-edition sterling-silver drawstrings. A laser-cut appliqueacute; of a double-headed eagle crest in tonal colors adds textural interest without being too busy. Staple colors for men’s T-shirts of gray, navy and black ensure a longer shelf life, and Italian denim jeans have a clean wash for everyday wear.
WHOLESALE PRICE POINTS: $25 to $40 for T-shirts, $95 for a zip-up sweatshirt with a silk-lined hood and $70 for jeans
