Flaunt Turns 10, Jacket Required
Flaunt magazine is frequently an advocate of “hippiester” style, or the boho fashions of the 1960s and 1970s. But you wouldn’t know it from the dress code at the Los Angeles–based culture mag’s 10th-anniversary party on Dec. 18.
The party’s invitation said guys could not get into the party if they wear T-shirt and jeans. Ties and jackets were required. Girls upped the ante by wearing gorgeous cocktail dresses—many vintage—at the party. Semi-formal most likely was the only proper way to dress for this event. It was held at a lavish estate owned by music producer Wayne Kao, and located in the exclusive Holmby Hills section of Los Angeles.
More than 2,000 people traipsed through the party, most prominently former Flaunt coverboy Kanye West. Actor Eva Mendes, Nikki Reed and Olivia Wilde were reportedly in attendance. Actor/fashion designer Taryn Manning was among the revelers as well as Eric Niccoli, founder of fashion line Orthodox, and Neely Shearer, co-owner of fashion boutique Xin.
Before the party, Flaunt President Keith Jacobs said the biggest worry for him was not whether anyone would show up, but whether the police would close down the gathering like a college kegger. A couple of Los Angeles policemen did show up at the party at 1 a.m., but the gala happily continued on until 4 a.m., Jacobs said.
