Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim/Cruise 2009: Cia.Mariacute;tima by Benny Rosset

For his second showing at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim, Brazilian designer Benny Rosset brought some of the joy and simplicity that defines his South American lifestyle to Miami Beach, Fla. He also brought some of the people—eight Brazilian models, to be exact. The Cia.Mariacute;tima show, a carbon copy of Rosset’s June runway presentation during Satilde;o Paulo Fashion Week, was packed with everything a girl could want for a warm water getaway. Alongside his requisite glamazon bikinis, Rosset showed flowing jersey mini-dresses with batwing sleeves, printed floor-length maxi dresses, fishtail skirts, mod miniskirts, souvenir-inspired T-shirt mini-dresses, swirling tie-dyed skirts and flower-child dresses. “The collection is inspired by the happiness of [Brazilian] people and our joy of life. What Cia.Mariacute;tima brings to the United States is that sense of play,” Rosset said. “Our prints are very colorful and the cuts [of the swimsuits] are sexy. Our fabric is light and silky.” —E.B.
