New Retail Developments at Irvine Spectrum, South Coast Plaza
The Irvine Spectrum is on the move. In late April, fashion board-sports boutique chain Active is opening its 25th store at the Spectrum, owned by The Irvine Co. Both the developer and the retail center are based in Irvine, Calif.
The 5,000-square-foot Active will offer labels including Obey, Ambiguous and WESC. The Irvine store will be a little smaller than a typical Active, which is 6,000 square feet, according to Shane Wallace, president of the Mira Loma, Calif.–based chain.
Oakley Inc. debuted an extensive remodel of its 10-year-old store at the Spectrum on April 4. A lot of the dark metals of the Oakley store were replaced with lighter, translucent materials such as glass.
According to Megan Saulnier, Oakley’s retail marketing manager, 30 percent of the store will be devoted to Oakley’s apparel lines. The Irvine store also debuted an eyewear-customizing service on April 4. Oakley customers are able to pick specific frames and lenses and make customized glasses at the store.
On March 7, a 3,500-square-foot Tommy Bahama store opened at the Spectrum, offering the brand’s menswear, womenswear, swimwear and accessories. The label’s restaurant, Tommy Bahama’s Island Grille, opened March 10 at The Irvine Co.’s Corona Del Mar Plaza, located 12 miles west in Newport Beach, Calif.
In other Irvine Co. news, Trina Turk will open a boutique at the developer’s Fashion Island retail center in November. The store will offer the designer’s homewear line, Trina Turk Residential, and there will be plenty of swimwear. The Newport Beach, Calif.–based Fashion Island overlooks the Pacific Ocean.
On April 10, an AG Adriano Goldschmied shop opened at South Coast Plaza, located in Costa Mesa, Calif. The 3,676- square-foot-store will be located in the luxury shopping center’s Macy’s Home wing. There are five other AG Adriano Goldschmied boutiques, with locations in Miami, New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. —Andrew Asch
