SIMA Liquid Nation Ball Raises $250,000
On Sept. 8, the Surf Industry Manufacturers Association’s fourth annual Liquid Nation Ball hauled in more than $250,000 to benefit a variety of surf-related humanitarian organizations. Held at the La Jolla, Calif., home of Reef co-founder Fernando Aguerre during the Action Sports Retailer Trade Expo, the event drew a crowd of more than 200 surfers for a night of dinner, dancing and auctions. Aguerre, the fund’s vice president, presided over the live auction and sold the pants he was wearing, while other more-traditional items also got plenty of interest. A Koa Olo surfboard shaped by Greg Noll went for $30,000, and a pair of satin pants reminiscent of Noll’s famous black-and-white boardshorts earned $3,500. —Erin Barajas
