Prepping Preps for Fashion Careers
Pasadena, Calif.-based Fashion Prep L.A. has launched a new program for high school students looking to enter the fashion industry.
The program was launched last month by fashion college instructor Grace Chang.
Fashion Prep L.A. is aimed at giving students a taste of the industry through simple design and field projects as well as determining what educational opportunities are available to them.
Sessions take place every few weeks. The first set of classes launched last month. New courses will begin on Oct. 13. Among the subjects offered are “Music Through Fashion” and “Introduction to Fashion.”
“We do interesting things like take the students down Colorado Boulevard [in Pasadena] on merchandising trips. Next weekend we’re taking a limousine charter to the Los Angeles Fashion District to search for fabrics,” said Chang.
During the course of the sessions, students learn about storyboard construction, educational and career options, trade shows, companies, publications, and fabric and product terminology. The students also participate in design projects.
The sessions take place on Saturdays at the Catina Ferraine Couture Gallery in Pasadena. The cost for the six-week program is $600.
