L.A. Fashion Week Spring '08: Ed Hardy
Christian Audigier, whose Ed Hardy tattoo-print T-shirts have become almost iconic, presented “a fashion show for the people” Oct. 18 at The Grove lifestyle shopping center in Los Angeles.
More than 100 models strutted down a red carpet extending several hundred yards down the mall’s courtyard before thousands of fans and mall visitors. A big stage was set up at the courtyard’s fountain, where Fred Levine, owner of retail chain M. Fredric, introduced the event, calling the Ed Hardy phenomenon one of the hottest trends in the world.
Amid the Chinese dragons, marching bands, rappers and drummers, Audigier presented images of skulls, bleeding hearts, tiger faces and Virgin Mary icons over tees, denim and outerwear.
He did luxe up the line with glittery leather jackets with metallic finishes and stud and jewel embellishment. He also presented a smattering of nautical looks for women, including striped shirts. Audigier wrapped up the show with a look at his new children’s collection, featuring originals and scaled-down versions of the adult line. —Robert McAllister
