L.A. Fashion Week Spring '08: Heatherette
There’s no such thing as too much at Heatherette’s fashion shows. The New York–based dynamic duo of Richie Rich and Traver Rains gathered souvenirs of inspiration for their Spring 2008 collection on a recent road trip through the dusty roads of the Midwest. Everything including New Year’s Eve kitsch, classic Fourth of July Americana and some Midwest street style was jumbled together for Heatherette’s runway looks shown Oct. 15 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Calif. Oversized show pieces and celebrity models Jenna Jameson and Lydia Hearst commanded the most immediate attention. But the designers also showed plenty of cute dresses fit for the streets of any American town. A purple silk dress with a red gingham belt was one on the tamer side of the spectrum. The designers also showed pieces in several whimsical prints including one featuring a plush teddy bear wearing 3-D glasses. Another print of a gingham picnic table overrun with ants showed a funkier side.
“Be who you are, and have fun. It’s not even about being crazy, it’s just being outspoken and confident,” said Rich, who took his bow on the runway on silver roller skates.
