Corpus: Hip and Slightly Edgy
Launched first as a men’s collection by design duo Keith Richardson and Jerrod Cornish, Los Angeles–based label Corpus has expanded to include a women’s collection that complements the casually progressive aesthetic that is a hallmark of the original collections.
Ranging from knitwear and button-up shirts to outerwear and denim, the Corpus collection is hip and slightly edgy, often with a moody palette of neutral hues. But for the upcoming Spring 2008 season, the designers are lightening things up with a collection inspired by the traditional American nautical theme. Classic cottons will provide primary fabrication in oxfords, twills and a hint of linen. The new looks emphasize classic silhouettes and modern details.
With design experience at Yaya, William B and various free-lance collaborations, Richardson and Cornish have a respectable curriculum vitae. Barneys New York, American Rag, Fred Segal and Satine all carry the line.
Highlights from previous collections include a peacoat, leather jackets, woven shirts and jersey jackets. Season after season, Corpus’ signature pocket dress shirt, cardigan and jersey drop-crotch sweat pant will always be offered.
Richardson said his favorite pieces from the Spring 2008 collection include linen drawstring shirts, a shawl-collar oxford shirt and a cotton-twill work jacket. “Spring 2008 is our version of preppy Americana with a nautical twist and emphasis on design detailing and fabrication,” he said.
Corpus will be shown during Los Angeles Fashion Market at the Atlas Showroom, located at 860 S. Los Angeles St. in suite 409. For more information, call (213) 627-1098 or visit www.corpusclothing.com. —Dena Smolek
