RVCA Flagship Debuts in SF
Costa Mesa, Calif.–based fashion label RVCA always seeks to turn convention upside down. Instead of opening its first flagship boutique in its surf- and skateboard-crazy hometown, it chose to locate its shop, called VASF, in the cradle of the hippie movement, San Francisco’s Haight Ashbury neighborhood.
On Nov. 8, the company held a grand-opening party for the 4,312-square-foot VASF boutique, located at 1485 Haight St. The star of the party was an art show featuring painters from RVCA’s Artist Network Program, including graffiti artist Pushead and AKA Barry McGee, and photographs by skate-and-surf historian Craig Stecyk.
Just like the RVCA label—which claims inspiration from the surf, skate and fashion worlds—the VASF store will not be easily classified. It will offer RVCA exclusives and fashion collaborations with artists such as celebrated party photographer The Cobrasnake. Gallery space will dominate 20 percent of the store and showcase the painters in the label’s Artist Network Program, among others. Also available will be a book-and-music section produced by Los Angeles–based book-and-music store Family as well as products by Gaacute;to Heroacute;i surfboards, Colab eyewear, The Seventh Letter jewelry and Caleb Siemon glassware.
San Francisco is just the beginning of RVCA’s retail. The company is also scouting real estate in Los Angeles; New York; Tokyo; and Sydney, Australia.—Andrew Asch
