L.A. Fashion Week Spring '08: Sydney Los Angeles

Designer Sydney Azria and business partner Michelle Rajacic staged their first Sydney Los Angeles fashion show at the 944 Lounge in Hollywood on Oct. 16. The Spring 2008 runway show marked the line’s second season of easy dresses and tops.

Off-the-shoulder mini-dresses in a repeating palm-tree print and floral paisley prints looked perfect for summer vacation days by the pool or at the beach. A romper with a polo-shirt collar had the feel of country-club golf attire but with a shorter, youthful length.

The designer uses only cashmere/silk-blended fabric, save for a new series of shiny silk mini-dresses adorned with contrasting ribbon that showed nighttime versatility. “When a line is new, you want to focus on one thing,” Azria said. The prints, such as classic Los Angeles palm trees, were designed to be stylish season after season. “We want to have longevity in the business,” Azria said.

The designer comes from a legacy of clothing manufacturers in Los Angeles. He is the son of Serge Azria, owner of Joie, and nephew of Max Azria, founder of BCBG Max Azria. —R.C.
