L.A. Fashion Week Spring '08: Single After Eight
After appearing on reality show “Project Runway” in 2005, designer Andrae Gonzalo joked he was famous in fashion, but he did not have a label to call his own. That story changed on Oct. 29.
That night, Gonzalo debuted his first fashion line, Single After Eight, at a cocktail party at the Theresa Matthew Studio showroom in The New Mart building in downtown Los Angeles. Gonzalo collaborated on this 18-look line with Galina Sobolev, designer and founder of Los Angeles–based fashion line Single.
Sobolev said Single After Eight seeks to dress a modern-day Audrey Hepburn for an elegant night of cocktail parties. The line also represents a shift in gears for Single. When Single started in 1997, the label gained notoriety for its ethnic and novelty prints. However, the Single After Eight collection will not use any prints.
Instead, the line will be constructed of silk chiffons, lace and silk taffeta jacquards. Gonzalo and Sobolev use a palette including aqua blue, pale mint green and pink coral. Sobolev said the collection’s wholesale price points will range from $170 to $220. —Andrew Asch
