L.A. Fashion Week Spring '08: Plastic Island
For Spring 2008, Plastic Island took a sharply tailored approach to sportswear that was still feminine and flirty.
This marked the third season the Seoul, South Korea–based company has been distributed in the United States since opening its U.S. headquarters in Los Angeles last year. Plastic Island not only distributes in the United States but also has 70 stores throughout Asia and one U.S. store at the Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance, Calif.
Crisp details such as origami folds, pleats and clean horizontal seams adorned feminine mini-dresses, high-waist shorts, sheer blouses and lightweight coats on the runway Oct. 29 at the California Market Center.
“We really wanted to focus on clothes that shape the body and flatter,” said Kyutae Kim, marketing manager for Plastic Island. Designer Anna Son is based out of South Korea.
Pretty dresses had a modern feel in geometric prints and a combination of textures. A coral dress with a jeweled collar had depth through tiers of shiny silk and sheer silk chiffon.
Casual items with a sporty slant, such as a romper with sleeves and a subtle bubble short, were elevated to a sophisticated level with draped woven fabric in a shade of foggy gray. —Rhea Cortado
