L.A. Fashion Week Fall '07: Up Next Emerging L.A. Designers
Models wore Russian-style fur hats during the Up Next: Emerging L.A. Designers fashion show at the EM & Co boutique. But the rest of the show, which took place March 23, was dedicated to Los Angeles.
EM & Co owner Eveline Morel, herself a designer, produced a fashion show for five up-and-coming Los Angeles designers to display their Fall and Winter collections. The new labels were Rhys Dwfen, Kkoni, T’aint, Seed and FNA. The 16-look show drew a crowd of more than 250 people, including fashion designer Rachel Pally.
The label Seed showed dresses that made use of details such as vintage lace and inverted pleats. Kkoni crafted mod-style mini-dresses with nail heads adding detail to the dresses’ deep-scoop neckline. Rhys Dwfen showed a champagne-colored bubble dress with pockets and asymmetrical cashmere cardigans. FNA displayed leather jackets with details such as hand-stitched embroidery of a spider web on the wrist area. T’aint offered items such as jersey wrap dresses and jersey jumpers.
Morel said that she plans to produce a fashion show once every few months for Los Angeles designers. The designers who appear at her fashion show are also sold at her store. However Morel said that merely spreading the word on the new designers is a reward in itself. “When you get a reaction to a designer, it’s a great rush,” Morel said. —Andrew Asch
