L.A. Fashion Week Fall '07: Oligo Tissew
Designer Christopher Enuke, known for his well-constructed denim pants and lushly knit sweaters, incorporated those trademark styles into his Fall 2007 collection, shown March 22 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Calif.Enuke took denim to a new level by rubberizing the fabric and injecting it with bright colors such as lavender, green and dark blue. They were the tightest of pants that narrowed down to slim ankles.
Many of those pants were topped with wildly colorful T-shirts that had images of geishas on the front. The Japanese icon played into his theme of “Dona Nobis Pacem,” Latin for “Give Us Peace.” It is a subject the designer has been contemplating lately. “When you think of the world today, in your mind it seems there is chaos everywhere. It feels as if there is a gray smudge on everything,” he said. “Both in color and expression, we are trying to capture joy and peace.”
Enuke’s casual-chic creations paired brightly colored tights with a dark miniskirt or a bright geisha T-shirt. Sweater dresses were done in brilliant purples, oranges and greens. The designer included bursts of color such as a yellow top and pants worn under a coat with red lining. —Deborah Belgum
