L.A. Fashion Week Fall '07: Maggie Barry
Maggie Barry debuted her Fall ’07 collection and launched her new “Dangerous Love” perfume with a fashion show and party on March 24 at the Music Box@Fonda venue in Hollywood.
“Our clothes are always a little risky, a little dangerous, so we thought we should have a fragrance that actually captures that,” said Barry. The designer kicked off the evening with a seductive video performed by singer Morganne and incorporated the danger theme into her Fall collection.
“Everything that we do that’s fun has a little bit danger in it. That’s what gets our adrenaline going,” said Barry.
Not one to take fashion too seriously, the designer presented her men’s and women’s collections in a variety of kitschy themes.
She had ninjas dressed in Asian brocade and sherpa jackets with gold metallic leggings and a snow board–inspired boxy parka, and snap-side pants looked as if they could be worn on a double-diamond slope. Barry also explored a world that meshed edgy punk style with a futuristic theme. Her cyborg punks wore bondage tops and pants with lace-up details and a lace gown with rock ’n’ roll–inspired appliqueacute;s. A pair of men’s overalls was made in black leather and decorated with studs, and a rhinestone-covered leather jacket sparkled like a disco ball.
Barry’s dangerous divas wore skin-tight mini-dresses in eye-popping colors. An orange flapper dress with all-over beaded fringe was a crowd pleaser. But a series of metallic green, turquoise and lavender leotards and tights worn with jeweled visors stole the show. —N. Jayne Seward
