L.A. Fashion Week Fall '07: Joseph Domingo
Fall and Winter are traditionally somber seasons, according to Joseph Domingo. But is there any reason why these seasons can’t be as sweet as Spring and Summer?
A sweet Fall 2007 seemed to be one of the themes of the title of the San Francisco designer’s most recent collection. Domingo called it “Black + Red = Chocolate.” The collection debuted on March 19 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios.
Many of the garments of Domingo’s 43-look collection bear the color black. The Phillipine-born designer also placed splashes of red on some of the pieces. But there was no chocolate color on Domingo’s short dresses, the gowns or his nine menswear looks. Instead, there were more gray and silver in the collection. Another important inspiration for his show were Gothic and Victorian looks as well as the avant-garde styles.
Models gave off a surreal look of being faceless mannequins due to the flesh-colored screen-like masks that they wore during the show. The women’s fashions were shaped by some tight-fitting bodices matched with hems that flared out. Men’s looks were notable for their outerwear such as a silver, colored, quilted motorcycle jacket. —Andrew Asch
