L.A. Fashion Week Fall '07: Charlotte Solnicki

A sophisticated palette of black and ivory started off the Charlotte Solnicki runway show on March 22 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios.

Designer Melina Solnicki showed a range of pieces in ivory lace, brocade and satin. Highlights included an empire-waist cocktail dress, a lace babydoll dress with tiers of ivory lace, and a tailored and hooded brocade cape.

The designer used knits to transition into brighter shades of pink, as well as somber shades of taupe and gray.

The designer played with volume—giving dresses a slight bubble to the hem and full sleeve to a zip-front leather jacket. A hooded leather vest was layered over a taupe sweater dress. A strapless dress in cool taupe shades had softly draped tiers of fabric, a striped dress was rendered in knitted shades of gray, and a knit skirt featured a jagged hem in gray, ivory and pale pink stripes.

Argentina-based Melina Solnicki founded the line in 2002 with her sister, Jessica, and brother, Jonathan. The company is based in Argentina, with U.S. headquarters in New York. The line sells in upscale stores, including Saks Fifth Avenue, Lisa Kline, Planet Blue, Harvey Nichols and Intermix. —Alison A. Nieder
