L.A. Fashion Week Fall '07: Anthony Franco
Anthony Franco was this season’s sponsored designer at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios, and the Los Angeles native didn’t disappoint at his March 21 show.
His Fall ’07 collection pays homage to the Old West, a la the HBO television series “Deadwood,” from which he gathered inspiration. The theme parallels the designer’s love for Hollywood, which parallels his extensive work on more than 20 films.
The looks he displayed on the runway captured the “outlaw-chic” persona prevalent on “Deadwood,” and he showed that not all outlaws have to wear black. For men, he featured tan plaid cashmere vests and pants. Another look was an olive trench coat in distressed cotton with Franco’s signature leather detailing. And there were plenty of sharkskin suits and silk canvas trench coats.
For the women, he offered lots of his signature detailing featuring hand-beading and ruffles on items including rich black organza blouses, lacquered chiffon dresses with built-in corsets, sexy boleros and satin dresses with waist cinchers. —Robert McAllister
