L.A. Fashion Week Fall '07: KRELwear
Specializing in tubular knits, Karelle Levy considers herself a textile designer first. “I hate construction. I hate patterns. I’m a textile designer that loves fashion,” said Levy.
Miami-based Levy stepped out of her comfort zone for KRELwear’s Fall 2007 fashion show on March 16 at Kitten Fashion Week at The Standard Downtown with cut-and-sew knits for the first time.
Levy kept to what she does best—tubular shapes—and, using minimal seams, she sewed ribbed-cotton knit flat fabric into wide-sleeved tops and flouncy skirts that held a voluminous shape distinct from her signature slinkily hugging tubular knit sleeves and tubular knit cowl-neck dresses.
For the show’s theme, “Little Red in the Hood,” Levy was inspired by the pairing of earthy brights, a tomato-red color yarn in particular, and neutral wood shades, taken from the image of snowflakes resting on the bark of a tree. “Having this brightness come out was like little kids coming out of the woods,” Levy said.
An iridescent royal blue and yellow-gold yarn twisted together, and a fun gold metallic yarn knit with neutral stripe colors added more pops of color to roomy shrugs and tube dresses. —Rhea Cortado
