L.A. Fashion Week Fall '07: Jared Gold
Salt Lake City–based designer Jared Gold returned to Los Angeles to show his latest Jared Gold Collection on March 16 at the BOXeight fashion shows at the Los Angeles Theater in downtown Los Angeles.
Gold continued to update Victorian silhouettes in modern fabrics, metallic foil prints and anachronistic details. A floor-length coat had a demure ruffled neckline and full sleeves but was rendered in gray sweatshirt fleece.
The designer experimented with scale and silhouette by cropping a leather jacket to nearly shrug proportions and giving it oversized bell sleeves. Similarly, a doubled-breasted swing coat had an extended collar and plunging neckline. Gold’s obi-like belts gave a white wing coat a peplum shape and cinched a sequined mini-dress modeled by musician and MySpace celebrity Jeffree Star.
A recurring design motif included an oversize honeycomb pattern in gold foil that lined the edge of a voluminous poet’s dress worn by longtime Gold muse and model Larva. A scattering of gold-embroidered bees adorned the leather bodice of a floor-length gown.
Some of his best pieces included ladylike A-line coats worn over trapeze and sheath dresses and a caramel-colored pony skin coat with a ruffled neckline. —Alison A. Nieder
