L.A. Fashion Week Fall '07: Collection Bebe
This is the third season that designer David Cardona is injecting Collection Bebe with a mega dose of sophisticated yet sexy styles.
For the Fall/Winter 2007 lineup, shown March 18 at Smashbox Studios at Culver City, Calif., Cardona took his inspiration from a familiar design theme this season: War and Peace.
The collection was infused with peace references, from chunky gold necklaces with peace symbols, to scarves with peace symbols, to the final piece, which was an ivory crepe and silk chiffon gown with a large black peace symbol on the front.
But Cardona’s version had a softer touch. “I wanted to try to make sure it didn’t come across too aggressively. The collection is playful in its approach,” said the designer, right after being photographed with “Desperate Housewives” star Eva Longoria after the show. “I was trying to keep in mind the sexiness and playfulness of the Bebe customer and make it all work together.”
The collection had a major infusion of black, white, taupe, army green and a bold burnt rust called cayenne.
Jersey was a predominant fabric that kept the collection looking sleek. Gold zippers, patent-leather trims and gold accents added an edgy flair.
Black jersey dresses had hoodies, as did vests and jackets. Patent leather added accents to collars, halters and shoulders. Key pieces included a fine wool twill tuxedo suit fitted like a glove and a black chain-mail jersey off-the-shoulder dress trimmed with zippers. —Deborah Belgum
