Chip & Pepper Launching Diffusion Line With JCPenney
Chip & Pepper premium-denim designers Chip and Pepper Foster have designed a new denim and sportswear line for the juniors and young men’s departments of JCPenney stores under the label C7Phellip; A Chip & Pepper Production.
The new collection will launch in July 2007, just in time for back-to-school shopping. C7P will be available in about 500 JCPenney stores and online at www.jcp.com. Creative Artists Agency, one of the top talent agencies in Los Angeles, and Mamiye Brothers Inc., a leading teen and tween apparel manufacturer, served as architects in this collaboration between Chip & Pepper and JCPenney. “Past successes with diffusion lines have showed us that there is a market for affordable designer product, along with its high-end counterpart. The two can co-exist and not take away from one another,” says Pepper Foster.
C7P is inspired by the California surf lifestyle and maintains the same vibe and aesthetic as the Chip & Pepper premium-denim and sportswear line. But C7P has a youthful flair and more affordable price points. The new line is comprised of an assortment of denim pieces, including jeans, skirts, Bermuda shorts and crop pants, as well as graphic tees, tops and fleece items. Retail prices range from $14.99 for tops to $34.99 for jeans. “This allows us to gain new fans that have an affinity for designer clothes but not the price tags. We also believe that juniors should be able to purchase the aspirational fashions they desire without spending a fortune, because—let’s be honest—not all juniors have $200 plus to spend on denim,” said Pepper Foster.
As the face of the brand and creative force behind it, identical twins Chip and Pepper Foster will participate in the marketing efforts for C7P and make personal appearances. “This is a great opportunity to introduce this up-andcoming target audience to our brand in a more cost-effective means. If they fall in love with C7Phellip; A Chip & Pepper Production now, we hope that later down the road they will carry that with them and begin to buy Chip & Pepper,” said Chip Foster. —Dena Smolek
