L.A. Fashion Event Turning Green
Green has become so trendy that even fashion shows are embracing the eco-friendly cause.
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Calif., announced that its biannual event will not only feature green fashions made of sustainable fibers but will also develop ways the shows will reduce its impact on the environment. That will include adjusting how the shows are produced and the materials they use.
“We are exploring many different options, from production to the runway,” said Fern Mallis, senior vice president of IMG Fashion in New York, which organizes the fashion shows. “We will encourage the designers who have consistently shown with us to include some garments that promote sustainability and eco-friendly fibers and hope to also bring to Los Angeles designers from around the world who are committed to this movement.”
