Gianfranco Ferre, 62
Italian fashion designer Gianfranco Ferre died on June 17 in a hospital in Milan after suffering a brain hemorrhage two days before. He was 62 years old. Ferre studied architecture in his native Italy but upon graduation began designing accessories for several companies, including Walter Albini and Christiane Bailly. He launched his own label in 1978 and grew the company to include women’s and men’s collections and licensed products. He spent a decade as style director for French luxury brand Christian Dior in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
