Ella Moss: Black Label
Designer Pam Protzel’s Ella Moss brand has become synonymous with luxe and comfy go-to T-shirts, dresses and tanks. “It’s the kind of stuff you can just toss on and look great and feel good [in],” the designer said. Now, with the launch of Ella Moss Black Label, the Los Angeles– based company is dipping into a more-upscale category. “I’ve always wanted to take what I do to another level,” Protzel said. “The vibe for Black Label is similar—everything is very flowy, feminine and easy. It still looks like Ella Moss, but everything is made from super-soft, washed-down silks.” Key silhouettes for the line include mini bubble dresses, apron dresses and baby-doll dresses.
Six styles launched for Spring 2007 in select retailers, including Barneys New York, Madison in Los Angeles and Blue Bee in Santa Barbara, Calif. Black Label’s second installment will come in for Spring 2008. The new season will see wider distribution and an expanded collection, including high-end knits and an expanded dress category. Retail points for Black Label, which hover around $300, are roughly double those of Ella Moss, which tops out at $180 retail.
