Hippie Ink Shirts to Aid Angelina Jolie's Charity
Los Angeles–based Hippie Ink will donate a portion of proceeds from sales of its “Love” series T-shirts and tops to Millennium Promise, a charity supported by actress Angelina Jolie.
Millennium Promise—whose board members include Jolie, former President Jimmy Carter and Quincy Jones—has a goal of ending extreme world poverty by 2025 and in sub-Saharan Africa by 2015.
Hippie Ink.’s Chief Executive Officer and chief designer Jennifer Ashley said Jolie became aware of her shirts when she received them through a recent charity event in New York, where the shirts were part of gift-bag handouts. Ashley’s shirts read “Love Is Not an Option” and “Love Is the Answer.”
The shirts were designed to heighten awareness for adoption agencies but will be expanded at upcoming markets to aid Millennium Promise.
“People are already getting behind it. It’s very exciting,” said Ashley, whose line is sold at Sharon Koshet Sales in suite B335 of the California Market Center in Los Angeles.
Ashley said the infant-mortality rate in certain African villages is as high as 98 percent.
“This charity brings medication and water to villages so they can have a life,” she said.
