New Parking in L.A. Fashion District
The first parking garage in 20 years officially opened May 29 in the Los Angeles Fashion District.
The seven-story structure is located at 636 S. Maple St. near Seventh Street and contains 420 parking spots. About one-fourth of the space is reserved for residents of Santee Village, a mixed-use center with apartments, condominiums and retail space. The remainder will cater to visitors to the Fashion and Flower districts. Part of the structure will also serve as storage space for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA).
The initial daily fee for parking is $3.
The project took three years to complete and is the result of a joint effort between Santee Village developer MJW Investments and the MTA. MJW’s Chief Executive Officer Mark J. Weinstein attended the opening along with U.S. Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard, Los Angeles Councilmember Jan Perry and Fashion District Executive Director Kent Smith.—Robert McAllister
