Zimmermann Swim Spring '08
“Hippe Luxe”—that’s the look of the Zimmermann Resort 2008 collection. The Sydney-based company created by sisters Simone and Nicky Zimmermann made its U.S. runway debut on July 14 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Miami Swim. The pair presented swim and resortwear from their 16-year old iconic Australian fashion label alongside pieces from their ready-to-wear collection. Nicky said, “We wanted to just really establish and get across our own point of view of what our brand is and what we look like. It’s difficult if you don’t have your own stand-alone store to really show what your brand is about, and this show is an excellent way to do that.” Inspired by the 1960s and 1970s, the collection had a vintage look with an updated modern feel. The show felt fresh with dashes of bright colors and of-the-moment original graphic prints. The look was complete hippie chic. A feminine antique paisley-printed bikini was paired with high-waisted denim shorts, a seersucker shirt dress layered over a ruffled bikini, and a long printed skirt felt just right paired with a bright blue halter top. Macrame jewelry, headbands and vintage shoes added to the ultra-hip look of the collection. —N. Jayne Seward
