ANK by Mirla Sabino Swim Spring '08

Subtly chic is the best way to describe Mirla Sabino’s swimwear. The designer was inspired by nature in her native Brazil to design her Cruise/Summer 2008 ANK collection. Giant tortoise shells were transformed into graphic prints, honeycombs inspired delicate embellishments and knit dresses were woven to mimic fishnets. Sabino showed her collection for the second time at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Miami Swim on July 13. The designer said she always designs to enhance a woman’s best features. “What I do is just try to improve it [the body] as much as I can,” said Sabino. “So, I try to design suits that are really versatile so you can adjust according to your body type,” she added. The 3-year-old collection was made with understated, simple clean lines cut to flatter the body. A white halter bikini had subtle, braided detail under the bust and along the waistline, and a taupe bikini had a ruched adjustable top and a bottom with a roll-down waist for a flattering fit. The collection, in earthy shades of black, taupe, white, gray and deep blue, was also made with functionality in mind. Sabino utilized fabrications engineered with quick-dry capabilities and a silky, second-skin touch. —N. Jayne Seward
