San Jose–based PayPal has launched a Mobile Checkout service that allows Internet shoppers in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom to pay for purchases from their cell phones. The Mobile Checkout feature is available at a range of retail Web sites that sell everything from DVDs and CDs to books, electronics and video games. Among e-tailers selling apparel that offer the service are AvantGuarde- Mall.mobi, Best Sports Apparel, Costume SuperCenter, Moosejaw Mountaineering and SkyMall. PayPal Senior Director Kevin Dulsky extolled the benefits of PayPal’s Mobile Checkout as a means for consumers to shop safely and easily from their cell phones. “As the mobile-commerce market grows as an extension of e-commerce, it will be critical for online merchants to adopt a secure mobile payment platform to reach new consumers and to remain competitive in the market,” he said in a company statement.
