DBLA Raises the Roof in Hollywood
You could call it a house party. When photographer and event producer David C. Lee landed a last-minute gig to produce a runway show for Los Angeles–based label DBLA at Hollywood nightclub and restaurant Les Deux, he set his expectations high—roof high, in fact.
There are plenty of places to stage a runway show within Les Deux itself, which is located in a two-story bungalow with several enclosed outdoor courtyards. But rather than stage a runway show inside the restaurant or in one of the courtyards, Lee opted to use Les Deux’s roof as the runway, with models crawling from a second-story window while 1,000 guests watched the show from below.
Lee enlisted the help of hairstylists Lilian Kha and Jennifer Ever and makeup artist Rochelle Jaimes to create the look of the show, and musical group Frequency 5 performed for the crowd.
DBLA bills itself as “a blend of L.A. and N.Y. style” and describes its men’s and women’s clothing as capturing “a jeans-wear attitude in a non-denim collection.” The company, which was previously known as a menswear line under the label Double A, recently expanded its women’s offerings and revamped its Web site (see related story this page).
The line currently sells in retailers including Bloomingdale’s, Lisa Kline, M.Fredric and Universal Gear and will launch in Nordstrom’s young men’s department, The Rail, this fall.—Alison A. Nieder
