MAGICal Attractions
Organizers of the MAGIC Marketplace, set for Feb.13–16 in Las Vegas, have planned special events and new attractions for buyers attending the Fall trade show.
A year and a half after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, MAGIC will host a “Fat Tuesday” charity concert to benefit the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity. Menswear brand Joseph Abboud will cosponsor the event.
The Mardi Gras–themed opening-night party will feature a musical performance by the Neville Brothers. The festivities will take place Feb. 13 at the Bellagio hotel, and tickets will cost $100, with all proceeds going to the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity.
This isn’t the first time MAGIC has reached out to help Katrina victims. In August 2005, show organizers helped pool the resources of the fashion industry to collect approximately $3 million worth of apparel, accessories and supplies for hurricane victims, which were donated to the American Red Cross.
This season, Ultrasuede will make its MAGIC Marketplace debut with the Ultrasuede Lounge, located near the Sourcing at MAGIC section. Equipped with couches where attendees can relax and enjoy refreshments, the lounge will also allow buyers to preview the latest colors and textures of Ultrasuede. Banners of the company’s newest and greatest will hang from the ceiling, where interested buyers can snip a swatch to take with them. —Erin Barajas
