FBI to Receive Training Grant
Los Angeles–based Fashion Business Inc. was awarded a $198,000 grant to be used for the education and training of industry and non-industry workers in various aspects of apparel manufacturing and retailing.
The state-run Employment Training Panel (ETP) will distribute the grant. FBI is a nonprofit agency aimed at assisting incubator and smaller companies in growing their businesses.
FBI will use the proceeds to conduct training courses. In the past, it has conducted classes in computer-aided design from PAD System Technologies and order-management systems from AIMS.
“Since its inception, ETP has focused on providing quality programs for the apparel industry. The FBI was selected to receive this grant because of the classes and training they offer to small- and medium-sized businesses. With this grant, FBI can continue to support the California apparel industry with support from the ETP program,” said Steve Contreras of the ETP.
Companies can take the courses to be offered and then be reimbursed should they qualify. Ten local businesses—including Frankie B., Stop Staring! and The Evans Group—have qualified for this subsidized training. Once approved, trainees can take courses in a variety of areas, including business management, computer skills, logistics and English as a second language (ESL).
