Frank Dandy Superwear Flies Into the U.S.
Brian Johnson hopes to introduce funky Swedish style into the United States as the distributor for the Swedish brand Frank Dandy.
Johnson, who now lives in Encinitas, Calif., hopped between Sweden and California during his adolescence. On a trip overseas, he met the import and export coordinator at Frank Dandy and discovered the Frank Dandy Superwear underwear line.
Frank Dandy Superwear was founded in 2002 and is the core of the brand. The company has since added streetwear, casual loungewear, kids’ clothing, and swimwear for men and women.
Frank Dandy Superwear is known for vibrant colors and original prints with cheeky humor. For Spring, Hawaiian-inspired flowers, camouflage, tapestry prints and modern stripes are standouts with the underwear styles in comfortable sporty basics shapes such as cotton/elastane boxer briefs and skimpy briefs for men and lowrise boy shorts and bikini briefs for women.
The punchy colors and busy graphics are especially bold for men, but Johnson is confident that American men will soon warm up to the idea of underwear as an accessory. “It’s a little bit more of a transition for the U.S. market than the European market,” said Johnson, who said Frank Dandy Superwear’s bold graphic style is a rarity in the U.S. men’s underwear market.
“I’ve always felt, looking at the product, that it would be perfect for the U.S. market,” he said.
