Salary Boost

Starting Jan. 1, California’s minimum wage hits $8 an hour, a 6.7 percent increase from the previous minimum wage of $7.50. Employees who are exempt from overtime pay now have their minimum monthly salary pegged at $2,733.33 a month, up from $2,600. Businesses must update their California employer posters to reflect the new minimum-wage increase and comply with state and federal laws. Beginning Jan. 1, San Francisco’s minimum wage will be $9.36 an hour, up from $9.14.
