Fabric Washes, Trends Focus of AATCC Seminar
quot;Fashion Garment Washing: Trends, Fabrics, Technologies and Sustainabilityquot; will be the subject of a symposium to be held Dec. 12–13 at the Renaissance Hotel in Long Beach, Calif.
The Research Triangle Park, N.C.–based American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists is sponsoring the event.
Session topics will include fashion trends and color selection, fabric trends and innovation, fashion-forward wash technology, and organics and long-term sustainability. The sessions will be led by a list of prominent industry authorities.
Denim will be a popular subject, with several seminars addressing laser technology for finishing, the use of resin in denim finishing, denim bleaching, plant-based dyes and enzymes, and global denim trends.
Denim veteran Adriano Goldschmied of AG Jeans will conduct a seminar on manufacturing called quot;Seismic Shift: How New Trends in Denim, Twill and Knits Are Forcing a Revolution in Manufacturing.quot; Trends specialist Fran Sude of Design Options Inc. will discuss Spring/Summer '09 trends from a West Coast perspective. Sude will cover the young misses, juniors/contemporary, young men's and home fashion markets.
Other speakers include Rebecca Klein of the Organic Exchange, who will address quot;Trends in Sustainable and Organic Textiles and Implications for the Supply Chainquot;; Jean T. Hegedus of Invista, who will lead a seminar titled quot;The Innovation Equation: The Role of Fiber and Fabric Development in Facilitating Commercial Successquot;; Eillen Abajian of Dow Fiber Solutions, who will discuss modern stretch fibers; and Tim William of DyStar/CSI, who will address color standards in the textile industry. Jim Hind of Cocona Inc. and Stefanie Zeldin of Jimtex Yarns in separate sessions will talk about using renewable resources in fabrics while Shannon Sadler and Luca Scapin of Modus SRL will tell attendees how to improve quality and consistency during denim dry processing.
In addition, Don Cameron of Terranova Ranch Inc., who was featured in Cotton Inc.'s quot;Focus on Sustainabilityquot; video, will talk about the misconceptions concerning the conventional and organic cotton farming systems.
