San Francisco Fashion Week '07: EVarize
Designer Erica Varize divided her Spring/Summer 2008 line into two parts: a sort of mid-’70s bohemian look and then a totally red collection called Measu(RED). The designer intends to dedicate 20 percent of the proceeds from her red line to The Global Fund and Project Uganda ’07 to benefit two orphanages.
Dresses made up the bulk of her line. Her first collection had lots of denim and psychedelic prints. Denim was seen in a wrap skirt and a denim coat dress cinched with a wide belt and decorated with wide buttons down the front.
Jersey was a favorite fabric that made the dresses of both collections look comfortable, even the ankle-length sheaths.
The red collection was vivid, with dresses in various silhouettes and lengths. Most outstanding was a red belted jacket with a large cowl-neck collar that flipped up and over to form a hood.
“Everything is free-flowing, very body-conscious and fitting but very beautiful,” Varize said.” I tell people it is sexy ’soccer mom’ clothes.” —Deborah Belgum
